Expression of Interest Details

Introduction

The Commonwealth Government is launching the Game on: Teaming up for climate action - Round 1 grant program to support community sports clubs to upgrade their facilities to improve energy efficiency and climate resilience.

The program aims to:

  • Reduce energy bills and emissions
  • Enable clubs to reinvest savings into club resources and participation growth
  • Increase climate resilience awareness in communities.

The ACT Government will act as a lead organisation, supporting up to 10 eligible community sports clubs by submitting a consortium application on their behalf.

Eligible community sports clubs may be able to access up to $100,000 (GST exclusive) for approved upgrades.

Community sports clubs wishing to be considered must complete this Expression of Interest (EOI) and provide the requested information.

Important information

  • Funding is subject to the Commonwealth's release of the grant opportunity, estimated for between July and December 2026
  • Submission of this EOI does not guarantee inclusion in the ACT Government’s application
  • Inclusion in the consortium does not guarantee funding approval by the Commonwealth
  • The ACT Government will assess EOIs and may contact shortlisted community sports clubs for:
    • Further information
    • Site visits
    • Energy and water assessments
    • Development of costed upgrade options
  • Community sports clubs may choose to apply independently; however, clubs that submit an individual application will not be eligible for inclusion in the ACT Government’s consortium application.

By submitting an EOI, applicants confirm they have:

  • Read and understood the program requirements
  • Provided accurate and truthful information.

Eligibility confirmation

Applicants must confirm that they:

  • Are located in the ACT
  • Operate facilities not owned by the ACT Government
  • Have an ABN and an active bank account
  • Are an eligible entity type (company, cooperative, incorporated association or Indigenous corporation)
  • Are affiliated with a recognised sporting organisation
  • Are community-focused and not-for-profit
  • Are directly involved in sport delivery at community sports clubs/facilities or management of community sport facilities
  • Have authority to complete eligible activities at the nominated facility.

Eligibility criteria and eligible activities and expenditures are outlined in the Game On: Teaming Up for Climate Action Grant Opportunity Guidelines.

Project information

Applicants will be asked to:

  • Identify preferred upgrade types (non-exhaustive list provided)
  • Provide facility location
  • Describe:
    • Expected energy/climate outcomes
    • Benefits to the club and broader community

Participation information

By submitting this EOI, your community sports club agrees to:

  • Participate in the ACT Government’s assessment process, including site visits if required
  • Provide timely information to support application development
  • Work collaboratively with the ACT Government as the lead organisation
  • Allow the ACT Government to prepare and submit a consortium application on your behalf (if selected)
  • Not submit a separate application that would conflict with the consortium submission without prior discussion
  • Support project delivery within agreed timeframes if funding is approved.
